The Setting: Montreal, Quebec Recommended Grade Level: 9-12 Related Subjects: Drama, Character Study, Literature, Playwriting, Religious Studies, Psychology The Story: In this searing drama, Sister Agnes, a devout young nun, is accused of murdering her baby – a child of whose birth and conception she has no memory. Doctor Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed psychiatrist, is asked to determine Agnes' sanity. The doctor, once a practicing Catholic, soon finds herself in conflict with Agnes' Mother Superior, who is convinced of the young woman's sainthood. As Dr. Livingstone pushes Agnes to reveal the dark truth Livingstone expects, she begins to see the world through Agnes' innocent and spiritually enlightened eyes and must face the amazing possibility that miracles do exist.
