Park Square Theatre seeks to enrich our community by producing and presenting exceptional live theatre that touches the heart, engages the mind, and delights the spirit.
Your Park Square Theatre Experience
Park Square opened in 1975 in an 80-seat walk-up in the Park Square Court building. That first show was The Doctor in Spite of Himself. Back then, we produced an entire season of plays for less than $10,000. Actors often competed with the sound of veal being pounded in the kitchen of the Italian restaurant above the stage.
We’ve left the veal behind and grown our own "chops" – becoming the East Metro’s regional theatre. In the past four years alone we’ve increased the number of artists on our stage by 220%. This season we’re putting more than 120 local artists to work for you in ten shows. We know you expect a broad theatre menu that rewards your intelligence and revels in language.
At 36, we’re a vigorous company with the ambition and chutzpah to be your theatre (yes yours) in new ways. First, we’ve made you supremely comfortable with a completely remodeled auditorium. The new seats are the best in town. The new stage lights save the energy equivalent of 60 three-bedroom houses. The finishes are elegant, the sightlines and acoustics superb.

Next, we will complete our $4.2 million Next Stage Campaign to build you a new, additional stage. In the intimate embrace of 200 seats around a thrust stage, you’ll be steps away from the actors. Whether your taste is for “Broadway,” “Off-Broadway” (or “Off-off-off-Broadway” ) you’ll find it all at our address. In a town rich with theatre talent, this expansion will grow the number of jobs available for actors, designers and directors by 60%. (And give you more choices for your nights out).
Your new thrust stage will also be the home for culturally diverse literature and new Shakespeare programs for our teen audiences. More than 25,000 students make ours the second largest teen theatre audience in the state. Your two Park Square stages will allow us to double the range of school offerings, providing the capacity to serve 45,000 eager young minds every year.
